Manufacturing Automation Engineer
At IXI, we’re on a mission to transform the way the world sees. Our IXI Adaptive Eyewear is revolutionizing the eyewear industry, bringing cutting-edge technology to vision correction. Our glasses are equipped with dynamic lenses, intelligent frames, and real-time gaze recognition, providing naturally sharp vision in any situation.
Our team of experts in optics, medical device engineering, consumer electronics, and design is united by a common goal: to break the limits of traditional eyewear and change the way glasses are made.
Join our team as a Manufacturing Automation Engineer
We’re now looking for a Manufacturing Automation Engineer to build and optimize laboratory and manufacturing automation systems. You’ll design and build automation systems that bridge the gap between lab prototypes and scalable production; systems where the methods don’t always exist yet. Your role will involve a mix of coding, hardware development, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners. It’s a role for someone who thrives in uncharted territory, bringing new ideas to life through practical engineering and smart automation.
You’re a hands-on system builder, the kind of engineer who likes to make things work in the real world. You’re curious, collaborative, and comfortable blending mechanics, electronics, and code to create reliable automation. You enjoy the mix of design, testing, and iteration that turns ideas into production-ready systems.
You may have experience in automation, robotics, or manufacturing engineering, and you’re excited to apply that know-how in a fast-moving environment.
What You'll Do
- Design, program, and implement automation solutions for IXI’s lens manufacturing systems.
- Build and refine production cells that combine optics, mechanics, and electronics.
- Integrate and optimize control systems.
- Ideation, testing, and documentation of automation setups from concept to validation.
- Support equipment selection.
- Work closely with mechanical, process, and supply chain teams to turn prototypes into scalable manufacturing solutions.
- Experiment; identify bottlenecks, share ideas, and continuously improve how we build.
- Occasional business travel to partner locations is required.
What You'll Bring
- Solid experience in implementing automation and familiarity with PLCs (e.g. Beckhoff TwinCAT)
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines, including mechatronics and traditional programming.
- A practical approach: you enjoy working hands-on with machines, wiring, testing and debugging.
- Curiosity and creativity - you are eager to improve the existing and innovate new solutions.
- Comfortable working in English and collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds.
It’s a plus if you have some background or interest in areas like machine vision, robotics, or precision manufacturing, or if your studies are related to automation or similar fields. You might also get to work with tools such as Aerotech Aeroscript. Familiarity with ISO 13485 standards, production test validation, or optics and liquid crystal–based manufacturing equipment would be beneficial — but more than specific experience, we value your curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies.
What we offer:
- A key role at a deep tech company that is truly disrupting the eyewear market – now backed by $36.5M in Series A funding.
- Work with an innovative, growth-minded and international team that values openness, creativity and collaboration.
- Dynamic startup work environment with minimal bureaucracy.
- Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package, including extended healthcare and benefits for lunch, sports, recreation, massage, and commuting.
- Opportunities for professional growth and career development as the company grows.
